Questions? We’re here to help

The facilities management and food service industry has been evolving for some time, and now more than ever, workplace is on the strategic agenda for our clients. Sodexo’s foundation lies within facilities management and food service. But Sodexo has capabilities and expertise that stretch beyond just FM and food that can help our clients transform their workplace and the experiences of their employees… but there is little awareness and understanding both internally and externally of what more we can bring.

So we need to change the way we express what we do… we need to change the language around our foundational services in food and FM… we need to break down the internal silos between Sodexo’s adults at work services ….

We need to move from COST to VALUE in the minds of clients and move from selling LABOUR and MATERIALS to selling Value Added Services. We need our clients, prospects and our own teams to be aware of our broader capabilities… and we need to send a message to the market that Sodexo is a credible strategic partner for workplace and employee experience strategies.

This is why we have created Vital Spaces. Vital spaces is our new value proposition for everything Sodexo can deliver for adults at work. It covers all our existing services and offers within corporate services… whether we self-deliver or provide capabilities through partnerships, and it includes our offers from the broader Sodexo business including B&R and PHS. And it will cover all future services, offers and partnerships that we develop to help our clients meet their workplace challenges. Vital Spaces is not an offer, it’s not just a brand or a campaign… it is the full value proposition of everything we can bring to support adults at work.

Vital Spaces is composed of two parts:

Brand & Visual Identity

  • It has a unique logomark with Sodexo logo incorporated. Also has colour palette and design architecture aligned with the Sodexo mother brand.
  • It provides a way to integrate offer brands and partner companies as well.

Strategy & Offer Architecture

  • All the offers are structured around 5 main service pillars and the objective is to strengthen our offers within each service pillar in all key regions

Internal document

  • The strategy is to provide services aligned with 3 distinct work environments – office-based, manufacturing and R&D - that exist in varying combinations in our target industry clients Vital Spaces is not a campaign, program, an offer or a concept. To introduce the new value proposition, we will run a launch campaign. Post-launch, different regions may run sub-campaigns for food, IFM, etc., but these will always feature the Vital Spaces branding.

Vital Spaces is a key component in helping us transition our Corporate Services business as the concept of the workplace rapidly changes. Most organisations are now looking at hybrid and flexible workplace models which allow employees to work from home or other locations. As result our services need to evolve and also how we position them needs to evolve. This was a trend that was happening before Covid-19, but has now been hugely accelerated.

We know that the workplace of today is not just about the physical boundaries of an office but encompasses the employee experience wherever and whenever they work and that’s why we have developed Vital Spaces.

Vital Spaces is a compelling and differentiated post-COVID offering geared toward serving adults at work, no matter where and how they are working. Vital gives us a compelling and differentiated value proposition for workplace that brings together our expertise, our partnerships and our underlaying corporate mission to promote quality of life.

Vital Spaces gives a brand platform designed to deliver growth in our target sectors. It will allow us to target and generate new sales leads and opportunities for organic growth with current clients.

Vital Spaces is our opportunity for us to leapfrog our competitors by focusing on people first with an integrated workplace ecosystem that can transform work environments to create those optimal experiences so people can thrive wherever and whenever they work.

No, we think Vital Spaces works across all types of workplace environments, whether that is office-based, manufacturing or R&D. Vital Spaces isn’t a one-size-fits-all. It gives us the flexibility to grow our business in new ways and develop solutions that fit the changing demands of the workplace.

We have used insights from our clients and from the wider marketplace for Workplace. We have also pulled in external market research such as from Harris International. Vital Spaces is designed to deliver against eight current issues that might be facing our clients and our prospects:

The key difference is that iFM is focused on buildings and real estate, whereas Vital Spaces is designed to be focused on people and employee experience. Vital Spaces is geared towards serving adults at work, no matter where and how they are working.

The key components of iFM – workplace services, space management, real estate planning, consultancy and vendor management – are very much captured within the Vital Spaces pillars, but the architecture allows us to build in employee-focused solutions.

Managing Workplace and Employee Experience is increasingly more than just delivering iFM. Vital Spaces allows to communicate the full breadth of the services Sodexo can deliver for Adults at Work, build out to develop more solutions and cross-sell those solutions.

Corporate Services has always been the internal name for Sodexo’s business and industry segment. Externally we have communicated as Sodexo and on our website we refer to our segment as business and industry. This is all continue.

Vital Spaces is what we will call all the services we provide within the Corporate Service segment. Externally we will present as Vital Spaces by Sodexo.

Yes, as a corporate mission, Sodexo is still focused on improving quality of life for its employees, clients and consumers. Vital Spaces is designed to help employees be happy, healthy and productive, which all contributes to quality of life.

No. Vital Spaces is designed as a B2B brand for our value proposition. Some operational materials will be identified and rebranded

We will continue to offer a suite of consumer-facing brands – Modern Recipe, Good Eating Company, Twelve etc – as well as having the flexibility to white-label our brands and services onsite.

We should however use Vital Spaces as a client-facing brand. Client-ready material will be provided at launch to enable engagement and discussions and address queries.

Rise with Sodexo was our global approach to helping clients prepare for and implement changes to their daily operations in response to Covid-19. It helped us to position our offers, solutions and expertise in response to the pandemic.

Vital Spaces is our comprehensive value proposition for Corporate Services. As we initially launch Vital Spaces, Covid-19 will still be very much front and centre, with clients grappling with both the immediate concerns and also planning for future changes in their workplaces.

So, it is important that Covid-19 is part of the narrative we use to make the case for Vital Spaces. Rise solutions will co-exist as part of the Vital Spaces narrative for corporate Services for as long as the pandemic and its impact continues.

We recognise that many of our current contracts and clients are focused on delivery of single services, or a mix of more traditional iFM services. There may however be other stakeholders within our client organisations who are interested in different elements of Vital Spaces – for example HR might be interested in some of the WorkLife services we can offer.

Firstly, we are developing a full suite of materials that will be shared, which will give details of the how Vital Spaces works, as well as case studies and commentary from experts in our business.

We will also be running intro sessions in which we will present VS and give people the chance to ask questions. On an ongoing basis we will run learning sessions which will offer a deep-dive into individual offers and services.

No. Vital Spaces gives us an offer architecture with five distinct pillars and a way to articulate the value of that architecture. Some clients and prospective clients will still want to contract us within a single pillar, or for a single service line – for example food, FM services or BRS services.

Even if we don’t always sell the whole model, having Vital Spaces gives Sodexo the opportunity to move up the value chain to become a trusted advisor to our clients.

There isn’t a single commercial model for Vital Spaces. We have commercial models behind the individual services and offers that make up Vital Spaces.

The business development team will be working with specific account teams, which have been identified as having potential for organic growth. They will support the relevant teams to introduce Vital Spaces and cross-sell.

We will also pinpoint and draw on subject matter experts within the business who can position to help us communicate elements of Vital Spaces to clients and prospects.

As we will build capability within Vital Spaces we will develop case studies to communicate our expertise and proof points.

We are often asked by clients about our potential to bring ‘the whole of Sodexo’ to them. Our clients rely on us to bring innovation, best practice and thought leadership. Vital Spaces provides us with a great platform to present this thinking and expertise.

Yes, detail will be provided in the Operations Playbook that will be ready and circulated by end of December.

Clients’ expectations need to be managed on the additional services. We should not be embarrassed or worry about asking for the right value for the services. This is a change management exercise for us internally and with clients… ultimately this will help us in elevating our mindshare with clients and helping more upsell and cross sell. Also, not to forget, there are hidden profit levers for us in certain services like Wx/CSM, BRS etc that we must recognise will ultimately help grow the business.

We will be briefing the business at all levels over coming weeks.

Yes, that’s true. Our business has been focused on onsite services so clearly we have stronger capability in traditional FM and food services. That said, through our wider business we can support each of the pillars and we will continue to build capability through partnerships and collaboration.

We will need to accelerate our digital transformation to order to remain competitive in a rapidly changing B2B and consumer landscape. We are investing in this area as a segment and as a wider global business.

In CS UK and Ireland we recently announced that Mark Hill has been appointed as Director of Digital, Innovation and Transformation with a remit to design the Corporate Services Digital, Innovation and Transformation strategy, defining and deploying digital solutions to improve efficiency, sales enablement and retention. He will ensure that our segment is aligned with Group Digital and IS&T, to leverage investments in digital and ensure we are influencing Group strategy.

Key to building this capability quickly will be to work with partners. Our Vital Space architecture allows for us to develop a partnership eco-system.

Potentially yes. At present, Vital Spaces is a Corporate Services value proposition. Vital Spaces is a value proposition for adults at work and in several Sodexo segments our services are focused on adults at work. In the UK and Ireland work is being undertaken as part of the transformation workstreams to look at the synergies between segments and to agree on ‘big bets’ – shared areas of investment - for the region. So, this question will be looked by as part of this workstream.

Wx has been part of our service offer for workplace for several years. Wx has offers that will fit within three pillars of Vital Spaces – Workplace Strategy, Workspace Design and Workplace Analytics. Wx is one of several partners we will work with to deliver Vital Spaces.

BRS and PHS solutions will fit within the WorkLife Services pillar of Vital Spaces. For example, BRS’s Employee Experience Card and Circles Employee Concierge, which is part of PHS.

As we see a shift to more hybrid working, we anticipate more convergence between our traditional onsite services and the services traditionally offered via BRS and PHS. Vital Spaces gives us the offer architecture to deliver that.

Integrator is Sodexo’s turn-key solution for property management and advisory services. Integrator brings together expertise from across all property disciplines to empower organisations to make effective decisions about their estates. The approach supports every stage of the property lifecycle – from capital project through to workplace strategy.

Integrator is a solution focused on property and physical infrastructure, rather than on employees and hybrid working solutions. Integrator will be included within the Workplace Strategy pillar of Vital Spaces.
